Train Cake

When my brother John was little, he loved trains – any kind of trains.  His joy was infectious when he was around trains. Playing for hours, there would be a smile on his face the entire time.  He would listen for them too.  Maybe it’s that we didn’t pay too much attention, but John always heard the whistle first.  He’d race upstairs to look out the window.  There, way off in the distance we could see a freight train chugging along on it’s tracks either bringing goods up to Wisconsin or down to Illinois.

My mother was very creative, and one year for John’s birthday, she made him a train cake.  We were all delighted with this creation and it quickly became a family favorite at birthday parties.

My little Cecilia celebrated her first birthday last week and I made her a train cake.  The tradition is continuing.

  2. Nice story and I loved the cake. You did a great job with it. The little red caboose shows up great.
